The Shannon is the longest river in the British Isles and is navigable along almost its entire length. There are 3 lakes directly on the Shannon and it is linked by canal to the lakes of the Erne Valley, in Northern Ireland. The Royal and Grand Canals link the Shannon to Dublin and the Grand Canal also joins the River Barrow which meets the sea on the South Coast at Waterford. The River Barrow also joins the Nore and Suir Rivers (The Three Sisters) which are also navigable along a great deal of their length. In all there are hundreds of miles of rivers, lakes and canals to explore, covering a great part of the countryside of Ireland. Boats from simple pleasure craft to luxuriously equipped cruisers and barges can be hired at many of the "riverports" along both the Shannon and the canals. Come and explore the largest series of European waterways (used by pleasure craft only) in one of the most beautiful, peaceful and unspoilt regions of the world, where you will receive a "Hundred Thousand Welcomes" --- Cead Mile Failte go hEireann
